Samsung Washer Error Code 3C

A motor fault, or a fault in the motor sensor.

Also shown as: 3E, 3E1, 3E2, 3E3, 3E4, EA, EB Last verified: 2026-10-30

Safety first. Unplug the washer before opening any panel, touching wiring, or removing a pump filter cover. Turn the water taps off before disconnecting a hose. If water is leaking, turn the taps off first and do not keep running the machine. This page is general information, not professional repair advice.

Most likely causes, in order

CauseHow common
An overloaded drum the motor cannot turnMost common
Something jamming the drum, such as a small item trapped between drum and tubCommon
A faulty motor or motor (hall) sensorLess common — service job
A control-board fault driving the motor wrongLeast common — service job

What to try, easiest first

  1. Switch the washer off, take out about half the load, and check the drum turns freely by hand.
  2. Look for anything trapped at the drum edge or in the door seal.
  3. Power the washer off for 2–3 minutes, then restart with the smaller load.
  4. If the drum will not turn by hand, grinds, or the code returns on a light load, stop — the motor or sensor needs testing.

Reset procedure

Soft reset (first try): press Power to switch the washer off, wait about 2–3 minutes, switch it back on and restart the cycle. If the code was a one-off sensor glitch, it often clears here.

Hard reset: switch the washer off, unplug it from the wall outlet (or switch its breaker off) for 2–3 minutes, plug it back in and restart. Never open a panel or touch wiring while it is plugged in.

When to call a technician

Call a technician if the drum will not turn by hand, the code returns on a small load, or you hear grinding. Motor and board work is not a beginner DIY job.

Difficulty, time and cost

DifficultyService job after the basic checks
Typical DIY time15 minutes for checks; repair time varies (editorial estimate, not a quoted time)
Part / job cost$100–$200 for a control board part alone; motor part varies by model. Board part range from the part-cost guide; motor part price is model-specific — check the part number for your model before ordering anything. Prices vary by model and area — treat every figure as an estimate, not a quote.

Model notes and limits

3C is the current motor display; older models show 3E and its numbered sub-codes, and the oldest models show EA/EB. Warning: on a few models 3E is listed as a voltage error instead — if the motor checks do not fit, check the 9C/UC power page and your manual.

Front-load and top-load models, AddWash/FlexWash models, and US versus UK displays can show the same fault differently. Always confirm against the manual for your exact model number (on the label inside the door or lid, or on the back of the washer) before ordering a part.

Frequently asked questions

I overloaded it once. Is the motor now damaged?

Not necessarily. One overload usually just trips the protection. Damage is more likely if the code keeps returning on normal loads.

The drum turns fine by hand but the code returns. What does that mean?

That points away from a jam and toward the motor sensor or control board — both need meter testing by a technician.

Why do old and new codes differ for the same motor fault?

Older Samsung models used letter codes for the motor fault; newer models use number-letter codes. The fault is the same, only the display changed.
