Samsung Washer Error Code OC

Too much water has entered the tub — an overflow condition.

Also shown as: OE, OF, 0C, 0E, 1 OC Last verified: 2026-10-30

Safety first. Unplug the washer before opening any panel, touching wiring, or removing a pump filter cover. Turn the water taps off before disconnecting a hose. If water is leaking, turn the taps off first and do not keep running the machine. This page is general information, not professional repair advice.

Most likely causes, in order

CauseHow common
Too much detergent causing foam that pushes the water level upCommon
A water inlet valve stuck open, so water keeps enteringCommon — turn the taps off
A faulty water-level sensor reading the level wrongLess common — service job

What to try, easiest first

  1. Turn both taps off straight away — if the valve is stuck open, this is what stops more water entering.
  2. Switch the washer off for about 30 seconds, then switch it back on. The drain pump should run and lower the water.
  3. Run a Spin Only / Drain cycle to empty the tub, then check for water on the floor.
  4. If the tub refills on its own while the washer is off, the inlet valve is stuck and needs replacing — do not use the washer until it is fixed.

Reset procedure

Soft reset (first try): press Power to switch the washer off, wait about 2–3 minutes, switch it back on and restart the cycle. If the code was a one-off sensor glitch, it often clears here.

Hard reset: switch the washer off, unplug it from the wall outlet (or switch its breaker off) for 2–3 minutes, plug it back in and restart. Never open a panel or touch wiring while it is plugged in.

When to call a technician

Call a technician if the tub refills while off, the code returns on an empty tub, or water has reached the floor or nearby walls.

Difficulty, time and cost

DifficultyMedium
Typical DIY time20–30 minutes (editorial estimate, not a quoted time)
Part / job cost$30–$85 for the inlet valve part alone. Part-only range from the part-cost guide; a valve stuck open is not a DIY delay — book service promptly. Prices vary by model and area — treat every figure as an estimate, not a quote.

Model notes and limits

OC is the current overflow display; older models show OE or OF, and small displays can render OE as 0E (zero instead of the letter O). On some top-load manuals OC/1C is listed as a level-sensor problem — if the tub is not overfull, check the sensor page for 1C.

Front-load and top-load models, AddWash/FlexWash models, and US versus UK displays can show the same fault differently. Always confirm against the manual for your exact model number (on the label inside the door or lid, or on the back of the washer) before ordering a part.

Frequently asked questions

Is overflow the same as a leak code?

No. Overflow means the tub itself got too full. A leak code means water escaped the machine. Overflow can cause a leak if it is ignored.

Why did the washer drain by itself after this code?

That is deliberate. The washer drains down to a safe level before it lets you restart, so the tub does not spill when the door opens.

I used extra detergent for a dirty load. Could that cause it?

Yes — excess foam can lift the water level and trip the overflow check. Use the dose for the load size, not the dirt level alone.
