Samsung Washer Error Code 9C

The electrical supply voltage is outside the range the washer expects.

Safety first. Unplug the washer before opening any panel, touching wiring, or removing a pump filter cover. Turn the water taps off before disconnecting a hose. If water is leaking, turn the taps off first and do not keep running the machine. This page is general information, not professional repair advice.

Most likely causes, in order

CauseHow common
A power cut, tripped breaker, or the washer being unplugged mid-cycleMost common — especially for PF
The washer plugged into an extension cord or power stripCommon
The washer sharing a circuit with a heavy applianceCommon
Unstable or wrong household voltage, or a washer used in a country it was not made forLess common — electrician or service job
A failing control boardLeast common — service job

What to try, easiest first

  1. Plug the washer directly into a wall outlet on its own circuit — no extension cord, no power strip.
  2. Check the breaker for the washer circuit and reset it if it tripped.
  3. Restart the cycle. A PF code after a known power cut should clear and not return.
  4. If voltage codes return with no power cut, note whether other appliances flicker too. If they do, call an electrician before a washer technician.

Reset procedure

Soft reset (first try): press Power to switch the washer off, wait about 2–3 minutes, switch it back on and restart the cycle. If the code was a one-off sensor glitch, it often clears here.

Hard reset: switch the washer off, unplug it from the wall outlet (or switch its breaker off) for 2–3 minutes, plug it back in and restart. Never open a panel or touch wiring while it is plugged in.

When to call a technician

Call an electrician if lights or other appliances flicker, or a technician if the code returns on a dedicated outlet with stable power.

Difficulty, time and cost

DifficultyEasy
Typical DIY time10–20 minutes (editorial estimate, not a quoted time)
Part / job cost$0 for the outlet and breaker checks. No part cost for the checks; electrician or board work, if needed, is quoted separately — do not guess at electrical work. Prices vary by model and area — treat every figure as an estimate, not a quote.

Model notes and limits

9C is the family label; 9C1 and 9C2 are the two common sub-codes. Do not confuse this with PF, which only means power was lost, not that voltage was wrong.

Front-load and top-load models, AddWash/FlexWash models, and US versus UK displays can show the same fault differently. Always confirm against the manual for your exact model number (on the label inside the door or lid, or on the back of the washer) before ordering a part.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between PF and the other power codes?

PF simply means power was lost during a cycle — a cut, a trip, or an unplug. The other voltage codes mean the supply itself looked wrong while the washer was running.

Why does Samsung insist on no extension cord?

A washer draws a heavy, spiky load. A thin extension cord drops voltage under load, which is exactly what trips these codes and can overheat the cord.

My washer is imported. Could that cause this?

Yes. A washer built for another country's voltage or frequency can report voltage codes even on a normal outlet. Check the rating label against your home supply.
