Samsung Washer Error Code PF
Power was lost during the cycle — a power failure.
Also shown as: None — this code has no common variant display. Last verified: 2026-10-30
Most likely causes, in order
| Cause | How common |
|---|---|
| A power cut, tripped breaker, or the washer being unplugged mid-cycle | Most common — especially for PF |
| The washer plugged into an extension cord or power strip | Common |
| The washer sharing a circuit with a heavy appliance | Common |
| Unstable or wrong household voltage, or a washer used in a country it was not made for | Less common — electrician or service job |
| A failing control board | Least common — service job |
What to try, easiest first
- Plug the washer directly into a wall outlet on its own circuit — no extension cord, no power strip.
- Check the breaker for the washer circuit and reset it if it tripped.
- Restart the cycle. A PF code after a known power cut should clear and not return.
- If voltage codes return with no power cut, note whether other appliances flicker too. If they do, call an electrician before a washer technician.
Reset procedure
Soft reset (first try): press Power to switch the washer off, wait about 2–3 minutes, switch it back on and restart the cycle. If the code was a one-off sensor glitch, it often clears here.
Hard reset: switch the washer off, unplug it from the wall outlet (or switch its breaker off) for 2–3 minutes, plug it back in and restart. Never open a panel or touch wiring while it is plugged in.
When to call a technician
Call an electrician if lights or other appliances flicker, or a technician if the code returns on a dedicated outlet with stable power.
Difficulty, time and cost
| Difficulty | Easy |
|---|---|
| Typical DIY time | 10–20 minutes (editorial estimate, not a quoted time) |
| Part / job cost | $0 for the outlet and breaker checks. No part cost for the checks; electrician or board work, if needed, is quoted separately — do not guess at electrical work. Prices vary by model and area — treat every figure as an estimate, not a quote. |
Model notes and limits
PF is not a fault in the washer itself. It appears after a power cut, a tripped breaker, or the washer being unplugged mid-cycle. If it appears with no known cut, check the outlet and breaker before assuming a washer fault.
Front-load and top-load models, AddWash/FlexWash models, and US versus UK displays can show the same fault differently. Always confirm against the manual for your exact model number (on the label inside the door or lid, or on the back of the washer) before ordering a part.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between PF and the other power codes?
PF simply means power was lost during a cycle — a cut, a trip, or an unplug. The other voltage codes mean the supply itself looked wrong while the washer was running.
Why does Samsung insist on no extension cord?
A washer draws a heavy, spiky load. A thin extension cord drops voltage under load, which is exactly what trips these codes and can overheat the cord.
My washer is imported. Could that cause this?
Yes. A washer built for another country's voltage or frequency can report voltage codes even on a normal outlet. Check the rating label against your home supply.
